The New Kid that’s Boxing Clever

With the recent demise of the Scandicrush subscription box service, there is a new way for Nordicool addicts to get their fix.

NorseBox, founded last September by Swedish-American Elise Kubicki, is a quarterly, curated gift box of Nordic design. Each season, a box arrives with the latest lifestyle & decor products from Scandinavia, and the great news is that the company now delivers to the UK.
Elise, who describes herself as ‘located between Åre, Sweden and Cincinnati, Ohio,’ explains the drive behind the initiative: ‘As my great-grandmother emigrated from Sweden, the northern simplicity has always been a part of my family. Something about Scandinavian lifestyle and aesthetic—the earthy minimalism, and functionality— I have always loved.’

Elise sources her pieces ‘directly from Scandinavia but ensure[s] a seamless shipping process,’ she writes on the NorseBox website, ‘[they are] simple but functional products, appreciating the beauty of the raw materials.’

The 2015 The 2015 Holiday Box, (which was only available to the US and Canada) had contents that would retail for $98, including a minimalist candleholder formed from a single piece of wire by Dane Nicholas Oldroyd, a small box with a green lid by Normann of Copenhagen, a postcard designed by Gothenburg-based textile designer Nina Schmalenbach; and small concrete pendants for use as tiny Brutalist-style ornaments by Antje Nixdorf of Pasinga in London.

A 2016 Annual Subscription to Norsebox, otherwise known as the Scandinavian Design Subscription, is $240 plus shipping. This covers four boxes, with one sent out roughly every four months. Alternatively, you can order just the Spring Issue, for $60 plus shipping. According to the website, you can expect products from up to five designers with introductions to their backgrounds and work. The value of each box is between $80 and $100. (Please note that you will have to pay any customs costs on receipt.)

Nu, has ordered one, so we will let you know soon what we thought of the contents.
