The Great Swenglish Bake Off

Just as the northerly winds blew the cold air into town, Kinnarps Winter Warmer event arrived to warm the hearts (and bellies) of 50 or so designers from practices across town. At our Clerkenwell showroom, chillies were served, warming refreshment was glugged and Scandi-cool furniture was viewed. But the highlight of the evening was the challenge to make and cook a pizza on site.

The ‘Great Swenglish Pizza Bake off’ started with a fresh dough ball, each ‘entrant’ (for this was a competition) rolled, in some instances cut to shape, smothered, carefully topped and crafted their pizza, ready for the oven.

Then, Uuni – the Scandinavian marvel that is a portable pizza oven – was ready to stone bake the creation at over 400 degrees C in a matter of minutes. Head Chef, Kinnarps head of marketing, Marc Bird, reported that some were perfect but a few, whose thinly rolled base couldn’t support the mound of chosen toppings, were less so. But all were eaten, in some form and the judging panel found many to compliment.

With points for taste, appearance and topping combination, there were many highlights. The judges Mary Lingonberry (Amanda) and Paul Stockholm (Ashley) were full of praise for the winners.

The results

Taste winner: Paolo from Sheppard Robson

Appearance winner: Annie from tp bennett

Topping combination winner: Lenka from tp bennett

And Mary and Paul concluded that the overall winner, scoring highly in all 3 areas was Dorota from Gensler (see photo, left)
