Princely Design

Swedish duo Bernadotte & Kylberg (B&K), has created an iconic series of timeless vases and bowls with bold, artistic patterns and a mix of enamel and aluminium, for Danish design brand Stelton’s new design family ‘Nordic’. The Stockholm Collection is inspired by the Stockholm Archipelago and the Baltic Sea.

B&K was established in 2012, by designers Oscar Kylberg and (Swedish Prince) Carl Philip Bernadotte, who describe their ethos as ‘creating iconic and inspiring designs that are made to last’. B&K have collaborated with Stelton, which has a stringent, minimalist design style that has endured since its inception in 1960.

Stockholm Aquatic, which won a Red Dot Design Award in 2015, was inspired by the full pallet of blue nuances reflected in the Baltic Sea throughout the year, and the pattern of waves breaking on its surface. Bernadotte explains:

‘We tried to channel the bold character of the surrounding sea in our design. By working with Indian ink on wet watercolour paper we managed to bring out both its serenity and dramatic expression.’

Stockholm ‘Horizon’ is reminiscent of the water around the picturesque archipelago. Just like reflections in the calm water, the Horizon design develops into unique, abstract patterns in blue-green shades, distributed across the collection’s three vases and four bowls.
